Reward for Recycling

Oakland and Genessee county already use this program set up by Richfield Management, now Emterra Environmental USA.  The program utilizes Radio Frequency Identification chips to track home owners recycling habits and rewards them accordingly.  The program utilizes local businesses to hand out coupons and discounts to those participating in the Rewards for Recycling program and is a great incentive for families to recycle their waste.

Michigan can do better!

With only 20% recycling rate here in Michigan, we can do so much better. Governor Rick Snyder released his blueprint for Michigan's energy and environmental plans for the near future.

Snyder quotes: "This year, my administration will examine possible options to get Michigan to where it needs to be on recycling, and I'll be coming back to you with a comprehensive plan in 2014." Let's hope he holds true to his word and brings Michigan up to speed in regards to recycling.

With only 37% of Michigan residents have access to curbside recycling, the lowest percentage of all the states in the region, according to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).
